Catching up

I have fallen behind in my blogging and so today I have decided to catch up a little bit.

As I have mentioned before, right now I am in a Digital Design Foundation class at Anne Arundel Community College and one of the requirements is to use a blog to talk about art.

I have been a user of Adobe's products for years, specifically Photoshop and InDesign, through school and work but recently the class was assigned a project where we were to hand draw an object and then convert that drawing to an Illustrator digital image. I have familiarity with Illustrator due to my last job but I have to tell you I was pretty terrified of the program heading into it because I had only used it previously to open .ai files and convert them to something I could use and manipulate in Photoshop.

After fighting with the program for a few minutes, here is what I was able to accomplish. And I have to say I think these images actually came out alright. First my hand drawings (which are the first since the art classes I took in high school over 10 years ago).

Yeah, straight lines weren't really my strong point the afternoon I drew these. Thankfully, Illustrator allowed me to clean these up.

Ok, probably not the best or most interesting drawings of a wrench you have ever seen but I do think these do the trick.

Welcome

Hello everyone and welcome to my latest blog. This blog was mainly started as an assignment for a class I am taking through Anne Arundel Community College. I've had the reporting thing down for quite a while now and I am hoping that my design skills can be brought up to par.

A lot of my early posts will probably be dictated by the assignments I have in this class but once I get out of the class I hope to use this blog as a digital portfolio and as a place to discuss things that don't quite fit into the other blogs I currently run. If you would like to check out my other work, visit the links under the "My Blogs" heading in the column on the right.

Thanks for visiting my site! As a bonus, here is a picture of my son acting out his latest obsession.
